Aberdeen announced the signing of Sivert Heltne Nilsen today. The 32 year-old Norwegian midfielder joins from SK Brann on a three-year day, for a reported fee of around £300,000.
Nilsen was described by Jimmy Thelin, speaking to the club website as a “leader who brings with him a real will to win.” He played 36 times for Elfsborg during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, captaining the side on 20 occasions.
We are expecting Thelin to prefer a 4-2-3-1 formation. The immediate question is how Nilsen and Greame Shinnie will co-exist. Nilsen does not appear to be hear to split time, and Shinnie is the club captain Whilst both would appear to have the tenacity to fit into a team designed to recover the ball quickly, can we afford to have two thirty-somethings running the midfield. Time will tell.
